I recently showed a buyer a property with a beautiful panoramic view of the Potomac River. I was on the balcony, staring at this very special view, and the buyer just shrugged and walked back inside. I learned a few hours later that buyer was visually impaired, and thus could not see the Potomac River view. There is an important lesson for all of us in this true story, that two people can look at the same thing at the same time and see two very different things. So we do need to first seek to understand, then to be understood. (That's one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey by the way.) First seek to understand.
